Module 1: National Urban Sanitation Policy
This section gives a comprehensive description of the National Urban Sanitation Policy launched in 2008 by the Ministry of Urban Development of the Government of India. Besides presenting a deep description of the sanitation situation of cities in India and the NUSP as a response to tackle the challenge, the Module 1 contains a collection of three factsheets describing the guidelines for Developing State Sanitation Strategies, Framework for a City Sanitation Plan and the Periodic Rating of cities in respect to sanitation.
Module 2: Preparation of City Sanitation Plans
Based on the NUSP guidelines and the experience gathered since 2011 during the drafting of City Sanitation Plans (CSPs) of 6 selected cities, GIZ has identified three basic steps that lead to the definition of the CSPs: formation of the City Sanitation Task Force (CSTF), Data Collection for preparation of Status Report and Analysis of the Information and Planning. This module is intended to guide practitioners during the process of preparing the city sanitation plans, particularly by focussing on the integration of 5 strategic dimensions to achieve sustainable city-wide sanitation in 5 sectors (water supply, toilet access, wastewater management, storm water and municipal solid waste).
Module 3: Implementation of City Sanitation Plans
How to transition from a document to a living document, enabling the CSP to serve as the roadmap for the ULBs, ensuring that the current and future interventions are in line with the short, medium and long term plans agreed on it? This question will be answered through the showcasing of the implementation of the CSP in two Indian cities: Raipur in Chhattisgarh and Kochi in Kerala.
City Sanitation Plan - A Primer
This brochure is a good starting point for the issue of City Sanitation Plans. It covers what a CSP is, why a CSP is required, which stakeholders are involved in a CSP preparation and how a CSP is prepared.
