Healthcare waste (HCW) is a by-product of healthcare that includes sharps, non-sharps, blood, body parts, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and radioactive materials. Poor management of HCW exposes healthcare workers, waste handlers and the community to infections, toxic effects and injuries.
